Hunting troubles: Gender and its intersections in the cultural history of the hunt

Hunting has always been an arena of gender fantasies. The pursuit and killing of animals were above all an area where physical, cognitive and social superiority were demonstrated. Hunting therefore created and reinforced images of the ‘masculine’ as well as the ‘feminine’. From a historical as well as intersectional perspective, this conference examines how the interplay between actual hunting and its representations reinforced and/or destabilized gender images.
