The State of Fine Art in the Age of New Media

Eingabeschluss : 30.08.2012

H. Kim, Sookmyung Womens University

Recent development in new media has radically altered the way in which
art is produced, appreciated, and distributed. As visual art has
embraced innovative consequences of new media, the mode of existence of
fine art such as painting and sculpture seems to be at stake. We invite
scholarly articles presenting new interpretations of the following
subjects: transformations of the work of art, altered modes of production and perception of the work in the age of new media. New media also significantly affects the way in which the work of art reaches the viewer at the level of intellect and sense.
Discussions on the role and/or expectation of the viewer in relation to the experience
of the work are also encouraged. We also seek articles that explore the
complex relationship between fine art and new media. All perspectives
and methodologies are welcome.

Western Art History is a peer-reviewed publication. It is affiliated
with the professional society called the Association of Western Art
History initiated in 1989 in South Korea <http://www.awah.or.kr/>.
The journal is published twice a year in print. In August 2013 we plan to
publish a thematic issue, “The State of Fine Art in the Age of New Media,” for which we are seeking scholarly articles.

We welcome submissions from art historians, critics, artists, curators, and other art scholars and professionals. The author of the selected submission will receive a $400 award.

Please send a completed article and a CV (including institutional
affiliation, complete institutional/home address, and email address) by August 30, 2012 to awah1213gmail.com. Articles in English language only will be considered. Articles should be 5000 -7000 words inclusive of notes and bibliography. All submissions should be accompanied by a 400 word abstract and 5-10 keywords. Follow the Chicago Manual of
Style. Decision on submission will be informed by October 30, 2012.
