Ryerson University's Faculty of Communication & Design invites applications
for a faculty position in the Photographic Preservation and Collections
Management Program within the School of Image Arts. Teaching
responsibilities will include courses in photographic history, collections
management and/or curation at the graduate and undergraduate level. This
appointment is a tenure track faculty position commencing July 1, 2008.
The School of Image Arts is a dynamic centre for creative learning, offering
three distinct degree options - Film, Photography, and New Media. The
program features a balance of theory and practice art and commercial
production. There are nearly 700 full-time BFA students, approximately 40
full-and part-time faculty, and 14 staff members. In addition to the MA and
PhD in Communications and Culture, the school offers an MA in Photographic
Preservation and Collections Management and an MFA in Documentary Media.
The successful candidate will be an experienced educator/scholar in
photographic history, theory and/or visual studies. Related professional
experience as a curator and/or collections manager would be an asset. An
appropriate terminal degree, or the demonstrated equivalent, is required for
this position. The successful candidate will be required to develop and
teach graduate and undergraduate courses, supervise graduate students,
maintain an active research and/or creative practice and participate in the
governance of the School of Image Arts. A proven commitment to student
engagement and excellence in teaching, an appreciation for Ryerson's
integration of practice and theory and evidence of the applicant's ability
to attract external research funding are essential attributes.
