Dear Dr. Brandon,
I'm currently doing a research on the decoration of the Casa Madre dei
Mutilati ed Invalidi di Guerra in Rome (Italy). The Building was begun by
the association of invalids after the First World War an used as a sacred
place to commemorate the war-experience an to give new sence to live after
the war. Part of the decoration are pictures of war and of arms used in
the battles. They are mixed with a specific Christian iconography to
transform the wounded into martyrs.
The research is part of a bigger comparative study of Art and Architecture
in fascist Italy and German National socialism. In both countries in these
years war influenced the arts.
As many objects have been transported to America I'm certainly very
interested in your exposition-project. Please keep me posted.
Best wishes from Rome,
Ralph Dobler
