Dear Amy,

until October 29th, 2006, there is an exhibition at our museum entitled
"The Souvenir. Memory in Objects from the Relic to the Memento". In this
show there is a section entitled "Souvenirs de l'Est" with a chapter on
Mao. This includes a number of porcelain plates, textile prints, etc. as
well as Mao memorial souvenirs from the 1990ies to the present day,
including the latest propaganda DVDs on Mao's life and a few more or less
satirical comments of contemporary Chinese artists on Mao and the
revolution kitsch. A larger part of the Cultural Revolution Period
exhibits was given to us as a loan by Barbara Mittler/Professor of
Sinology, Heidelberg University (she works on the trauma of the cultural
revolution in modern China). You may also contact Dr. Adele
Schlombs/Director of the Museum of East Asian Art Cologne who has some
interesting material from Cultural Revolution China. For our Frankfurt
exhibition there is a catalogue (30 euro), with some remarks I wrote on
the Mao issue, but all in German.

All the best
Stephan
