The Students' Scholarly Society for Museology and Connoisseurship of
Historical Monuments at the Department of Fine Art, Nicolaus Copernicus
University in Torun announces:

the Third International Students' Conference

from the cycle:

"MUSEUM AND CONSERVATION AT THE BEGINNING OF THE 21st CENTURY"

which will be held from March 30th - April 1st 2006 in Torun.

The aim of the conference is to present scholarly achievements of junior
researchers from Central and Eastern Europe as well as exchange experiences,
views and opinions between them. We look forward to discussion on the state
of present-day museology, conservation and the latest changes in these
fields.

The Invitation is forwarded to students, post-graduate students, young
employees of cultural institutions and academics. At the meeting, foreseen
as interdisciplinary, we intend to present standpoints of both conservators,
art historians, architects, archaeologists or historians and administrative
staff, such as museum managers.

Application deadline is 31st of January 2006. (Application form can be

The program of the symposium provides for discussion in three groups of
problems:

1. Theory of conservation and restoration of historical monuments.
(intellectual foundations for conservation and restoration; evolution of
their practicality under the present conditions; possible attempts to define
new criteria in this field);

2. Contemporary conservation practice.
(current achievements and methods; their relation to older types of works
and to existing conservation theory);

3. Transformations in modern museology.
(the condition of museums: their role and meaning in today's world; new
trends in management and functioning of museums, state of the art in
exhibition arrangement; ideas for future development of museums).
