Expanding East Asian Studies Postdoctoral Fellowship
New York, United States
The Expanding East Asian Studies (ExEAS) program at Columbia University
invites applications for postdoctoral fellowships for the 2006-2007
academic year. One or two fellowships will be offered. Each fellowship
will cover a 10- or 12-month period beginning July 1, 2006 or September 1,
2006. The stipend for 2006-2007 is $41,000 plus benefits.
ExEAS Fellows will devote half of their time to ExEAS programming and half
to their own research and writing. Each Fellow is required to be in
residence in the New York City area, develop and teach one undergraduate
course at Columbia (either in Fall 2006 or Spring 2007), and participate
in all activities of the ExEAS teaching collaborative.
Candidates from all East Asian disciplines and areas are welcome to apply.
Recipients of the award must have completed all Ph.D. degree requirements
(completed and filed the dissertation) between July 2003 and July 2006.
Applications from individuals who hold or have held regular faculty
positions will not be considered.
Applicants should submit one original and one photocopy* of the following
materials:
- Application Cover Sheet (available from
http://www.exeas.org/fellowship.html
- Curriculum vitae
- Proposal for two undergraduate courses. This proposal must not exceed
1,000 words total for both courses (approx. 2 – 3 pages). The courses, to
be offered without prerequisite, are to emphasize cross-border,
transregional, and interdisciplinary approaches. The actual courses to be
introduced will be designed collaboratively, so this proposal is meant to
convey a sense of your teaching interests beyond the special field of your
research.
- 2-3 page research proposal (not to exceed 1,000 words).
- 3 letters of reference (signed and sealed). Letters of reference may be
those included in your placement dossier and may be enclosed with the
application (if signed and sealed). Letters may also be sent directly by
the referee.
*Only one copy of each letter of reference is required.
All application materials (including letters of reference) should be
postmarked on or before January 30, 2006. Faxed or e-mailed applications
will not be accepted. Candidates may be invited for a phone interview. All
evaluations of applications are confidential. Awards will be announced no
later than mid-May 2006.
