University of Wisconsin - River Falls - Assistant Professor of Art History
The Department: The Art Department offers accredited bachelor degree programs
(B.F.A., B.A. and
B.S.) in painting, drawing, fibers, advertising design, ceramics, glass,
printmaking,
metals/jewelry, art education and photography. The department also co-sponsors
an interdisciplinary
Master’s degree for teachers of the arts. The nine art faculty members have
either national or
international reputations and teach a high quality program in newly renovated
studio facilities
appropriate to each area of fine arts offered. Gallery 101 hosts numerous
exhibitions and events and
provides a venue for students to gain experience in exhibition, art promotion
and display.
The Position: The Department of Art is seeking an Assistant Professor of Art
History. Duties will
include teaching undergraduate courses in art appreciation, surveys of western
art history,
contemporary art history and other specialized topics in the candidate’s area
of expertise. Other
responsibilities include: overseeing a resource library of media materials for
teaching art history,
advising students majoring in art; and actively participating and serving on
various department and
university committees. The position is a full-time tenure-track faculty
position that begins in
August 2006. Compensation is based on qualifications, including education and
experience. The
University expects scholarly activity, which may include research,
publications, presentations and
creative endeavors that support the program.
Qualifications: Applicants must have obtained a doctorate degree at time of
appointment, evidence of
or potential for successful university-level teaching, a record of successful
scholarly activity and
contributions to the field, and strong verbal and written communication skills.
