1905 / 2005: The Centenary of Brücke: Pioneers of German Expressionism
Thursday 8 - Friday 9 September 2005
University of Sussex, Brighton
This two-day international conference will mark the 100th anniversary of the
formation of the Brücke, the first German Expressionist group. It has the
support of the British Academy, the University of Sussex School of
Humanities, the Sussex Centre for Research in the History of Art, and the
Centre for Modernist Studies.
Other events elsewhere in Europe have celebrated this occasion, including an
exhibition in Madrid, a colloquium in Brucke¹s 'birthplace' Dresden, and a
'blockbuster' show at the Neue Nationalgalerie Berlin (on until August
28th). However, this will be the only event staged in the UK, and as such is
unmissable!
To reflect the significance of this occasion, a 'world-class' line-up of
speakers from the United States and Europe has been put together.
