Musifications. House to Museum (Manchester 22-23 Apr 05)

Conference
MUSIFICATIONS
House to Museum in Italy, 1500 to the Present Day
Friday-Saturday, 22-23 April, 2005
Whitworth Art Gallery
Manchester, UK

With Italy as its setting, Musifications aims to explore the relationship
between collections in domestic residences and collections absorbed into
art galleries and museums. The musifications range from houses which
contain "museums," or themselves have become "museums," to heterogeneous
objects in museums that can be gathered together to suggest what
collections in house interiors might have been like in the past. By casting
a wide chronological net, yet sticking to the narrow theme of collections
associated with residences, the conference aims to stimulate discussion
between academic and museum scholars, and to suggest new paths for research
in this area.
