Lecturership/Senior Lectureship In Art History And Visual Studies

Applications are invited for a lectureship or senor lectureship in art
history and visual studies for a scholar with expertise in Middle-Eastern
and/or South Asian art history and visual studies in the period of c. 1500
to c. 1800. Preference will be given to scholars whose research and
teaching emphasises the rapidly expanding, global networks of economic,
political, and cultural exchange during this period. The successful
candidate will join a thriving research community (rated 5 in the last RAE
and currently holding two major AHRB awards). Applicants should have a
PhD, should be committed to contributing to the School's research culture,
and to teaching at all levels.
Salary:
T he appointment will be made at the appropriate point according to
experience on the Lecturer B and Senior Lecturer scale, £27,989 to £42,573
per annum.

English Heritage PhD Studentships in Architectural History

Applications are invited for two studentships (fees only) in the field of
English Architectural History 1550-1990. The studentships, which will pay
the cost of fees at the UK/EU rate (£3010 for the 2004-5 academic year)
for a maximum of three years of full-time study, are intended to allow two
students to study for PhDs under the supervision of Dr Anthony Geraghty.
The awards are open to UK, EU and overseas applicants; overseas candidates
will be required to demonstrate, before the offer of an award is
confirmed, that they have sufficient funds to cover the balance of the
tuition fee, and any candidate will be required to demonstrate that they
have sufficient funds to cover living expenses before the offer of an
award is confirmed. There is no requirement to reside in York during the
period of registration, although students will be expected to attend
regularly for supervisions and other purposes. The following areas have
been developed with reference to the research priorities of English
Heritage and the interests of the Department, and the successful
applicants will work on topics which fall within these fields.
The work of a particular architect
History and fabric of a particular building or set of buildings
Architectural drawing
Places of worship
The relationship between historic buildings and historic landscapes
Architecture in an industrial, or technologically innovative context

Research Studentship in History of Art
