The Department of Communication and Visual Art at the University of
Michigan-Flint seeks an Assistant Professor of Art for a tenure track
position with a specialization in Art History.

The Position Primary teaching responsibilities are in Art History,
including such courses as Art Appreciation, Contemporary Art, Global Art,
and other area specialties. Special consideration will be given to
applicants who can also teach courses in online and web-based modes and
can demonstrate knowledge of contemporary art and criticism. Normal
teaching load is 9 credit hours per semester. As the sole full-time art
historian, the candidate will also oversee adjunct instruction in art history.

The Department

The Department of Communication and Visual Art serves approximately 200
majors. Concentration areas include Ceramics, Drawing/Printmaking, Graphic
Design, Painting, Photography/Design, and Sculpture. Plans are now
underway to revise the curriculum and propose a graduate program. The
department is located in a new state-of-the art facility. Among the many
exciting features of the new facility include smart classrooms, dedicated
studio spaces, computer graphic and digital printing labs, plus a close
relationship with the campus public television station, WFUM-TV 28. The
University Situated on an attractive campus near downtown Flint, the

Qualifications

PhD in Art History expected at the time of appointment. The successful
candidate will demonstrate a commitment to and excellence in student
learning, scholarship and service. Specifically, we seek candidates who
enjoy interaction with students and exploring innovative methods of
instruction. Likewise, the successful candidate will demonstrate the
ability to publish in disciplinary-relevant national and international
scholarly outlets. Service to the university community and discipline are
also important to the department. Consequently, the successful candidate
will be active in university and disciplinary service. We are especially
interested in candidates who are willing and able to pursue links between
the department and relevant community organizations. We also seek
candidates who enjoy working in an open, collaborative environment.
