The David Carritt Scholarship

Outstanding candidates are invited to apply for this fully-funded three
year postgraduate scholarship leading to a PhD in the area of history of
eighteenth century sculpture, painting, architecture or the decorative
arts. Preference may be given to a candidate willing to research William
Hunter (1718-83) as a collector and museum founder, in particular the
acquisition of important pictures that includes works by Rubens,
Rembrandt, Chardin and Stubbs, and their display. This project forms an
integral part of the research programme that culminates in the celebration
of the Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery's bicentenary in 2007.You will
join a department rated 5 in RAE 2001 that is at the forefront of
innovative collections-based research.
