HAROLD WHITE FELLOWSHIPS AT THE NATIONAL LIBRARY
Applications for Harold White Fellowships at the National Library of
Australia in 2002 are due by 30 April 2001.
The aims of the Fellowships are to promote the Library as a centre of
scholarly activity and research; to encourage scholarly and literary use of
the collections and the production of publications based on them; and to
publicise the Library's collections.
Each year about five Fellowships are awarded to enable established scholars
and writers to work for periods of 3 to 6 months on books, manuscripts,
maps, newspapers, oral histories, pictorial materials and music held in the
Library. Historians have been prominent among previous Fellows. They have
included Neville Meaney, Henry Reynolds, Wilfrid Prest, Nicholas Thomas,
Paul Turnbull, Campbell Macknight, Ian Hancock, Peter Cochrane, Geoffrey
Bolton, Peter Edwards, Paula Byrne, David Lowe and Bridget Griffen-Foley.
Harold White Fellowships may be either paid or honorary. The paid Fellows
in 2001 receive a stipend of $700 per week. Fellowships are open to
Australian residents (including Canberra residents) and individuals living
overseas. Fellowships will not be awarded to postgraduate students unless
they have met all the requirements of their examiners.
Applications should be made on forms available from the Library or on the
