Modern Art Anthology

Eingabeschluss : 15.11.2019

Irina D. Costache

The editors of a new book on modern art are seeking essays/articles that address artistic developments across the globe between 1850 and 1960. This anthology will include essays that reflect the current art historical concerns and theoretical perspectives. A special attention will be given to topics that discuss:

1. Artists and movements that were fundamental within their contemporary contexts or now from a historical perspective, but have been ignored by and/ or marginalized from the modern art cannon.

2. Visual and conceptual dialogues between cultures, styles, artists and ideas around the world during this period.

The book, which is organized chronologically, aims to discuss modern art ideas, issues, movements and styles across continents. This will be a novel, thoughtful, scholarly re-evaluation of modern art that reflects current art history theoretical perspectives. The book plans to critically deconstruct the “traditional” canon of modern shifting the meaning of key terms (modernism, avant-garde, etc.), concepts (simultaneity, representation, etc.) and moments (impressionism, surrealism, etc.) from a Eurocentric/western to a global perspective. The anthology will be relevant to established scholars and newer generations of art historians, as well as museum professionals and other art experts whose views of art history are no longer fixed in a pattern of Western predominance.

If you are interested in contributing to this book please send to both editors (irina.costachecsuci.edu and ckunnygmail.com):
1. A very brief statement explaining your interest and expertize in the topic;
2. A short, 250-400 word abstract of your proposed essay/article;
3. Your current Bio/CV (2 pages max).
