The Chair of Cultural Management of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg is delighted to announce the call for expressions of interest to participate in the World Heritage International Summer School 2017 (WHISS 2017). The Summer School is a multi-university partnership with an interdisciplinary and interfaculty approach created as a platform for professional capacity-building and knowledge transfer for post-graduate academics and mid-career professionals.

The World Heritage International Summer School 2017 (WHISS 2017) is dedicated to Heritage Impact Assessments (HIA) and identifying negative and positive impacts of development plans and projects on heritage sites. By means of various formats including lectures, seminars, workshops and tutored practical exercises, the Summer School will provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills to understand and conduct impact assessment analyses. The course focuses primarily on transferring technical and practical knowledge of heritage and HIA experts to mid-career professionals, post-graduate students and academic staff. At the same time, it aims at identifying needs for further academic research in developing and refining methodologies currently applied within HIA processes to allow academic participants to provide inspiration for improved future tools in these processes.

The Summer School will take place from July 16th to July 26th 2017 at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg with a two-days practical group exercise in Berlin at the Tempelhof Field. During this exercise participants will be actively engaged in assessing impacts of potential development plans that could be proposed for this specific site in the future.

The summer school is organized by the Chair of Cultural Management of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg in partnership with Deakin University (Melbourne, Australia) and Helwan University (Cairo, Egypt).
