Jerzy Kutnik

Dear colleagues,

The organizing committee of the Collaborative Conference on Language, Literature and Linguistics 2016, to be held between September 19-23 in Barcelona, Spain, has accepted my proposal to convene a workshop on LANGUAGE AND ART.

Language and art intersect in many contexts and on many levels, from titles of works of art and letters and words appearing in paintings as visual and verbal signage to writings about aesthetic ideas and creative experiences (manifestoes, theory, autobiography, etc.). Besides looking at how artists employ language, this workshop hopes to bring together scholars who use concepts and tools specific to such philological disciplines as linguistics and the study of literature to describe and interpret works of art which rely on nonverbal media. In the true spirit of communication and collaboration across divisions, we want to create a forum for exploring correspondences, connections, relations, analogies, and mutual migrations within and between different arts and academic disciplines.

All proposals broadly related to the workshop's topic, from language in/as art to artists' writings, are welcome. Please submit your propsal to the conference organizers and also
send a copy to me to make sure it is accepted.

More information about the conference, including submission instructions, can be found at: http://2conf.org/language/2016/
