Young Researchers: On Goya or About Goya? (Madrid, 23 Oct 26)

Museo Nacional del Prado, Madrid, Oct 23, 2026
Registration deadline: Oct 19, 2026

ITZIAR ARANA COBOS, Madrid

The year 2028 marks the bicentennial of the death of the distinguished and seminal painter Francisco de Goya (1746–1828). The artist’s critical reputation has not waned over these two hundred years, although his life and work have been subject to diverse interpretations and approached from a wide variety of perspectives, with results that are sometimes contradictory. It is paradoxical that some of the issues raised just a few years after the painter’s death remain unresolved, something that rarely happens with other artists of Goya’s stature. This conference for young researchers aims to showcase the perspectives and research methodologies of a new generation dedicated to studying the work of this universal artist. It also aims to serve as a means of delving deeper into the paradoxes and challenges of studying Goya’s work, with the goal of formulating a proposal for the future that ensures a thorough understanding of his body of work while setting aside non-scientific interests.
