Henry Moore Institute is a world-recognised centre for the study of sculpture. We host a year-round programme of exhibitions, conferences and lectures, as well as developing research and publications, to expand the understanding and scholarship of sculpture. Each year we offer a number of fellowships to enable artists and researchers to develop their work.
The Institute’s Sculpture Research Library holds over 30,000 publications, including books, journals and ephemera and the Archive of Sculptors’ Papers documents the working lives of hundreds of British sculptors. Staff at the Institute have a depth and breadth of knowledge of sculpture and its histories and we enjoy engaging with fellows as they develop their research.
Visiting Research Fellowships are intended for academics and curators working on historic and contemporary sculpture who can make particular use of the Institute’s resources: our Research Library, Archive of Sculptors’ Papers and the Leeds Sculpture Collections.
Artist Research Fellowships are intended for artists to develop their practice through research, using the Institute’s resources. The fellowships will support a range of visual arts practices and outcomes generated through research into sculpture and its histories. Please note that the fellowship is for research only and we are unable to offer studio facilities.
Research Fellows will be given the opportunity to spend a month in Leeds including travel reimbursement, accommodation and subsistence of up to £125 per week. In addition we will support up to two six-week Senior Fellowships, which are intended to give established scholars time and space to develop a research project free from usual work commitments.
The fellowships are intended to be based in Leeds. Archival material relating to Henry Moore is housed at the Henry Moore Studios and Gardens in Perry Green, Hertfordshire. If your research will require access to material held at the Henry Moore Studios and Gardens, please specify this in your application.
A grant will be available to successful applicants to meet reasonable accommodation, travel and subsistence costs.
