The Italian Art Society (https://www.italianartsociety.org) is seeking complete session proposals that address any issue relevant to Italian art and architecture during the long sixteenth century. The Sixteenth Century Society & Conference (SCSC) was founded to promote scholarship on the early modern era (c.1450-1600), and actively encourages the participation of international scholars as well as the integration of younger colleagues into the academic community.
IAS members interested in organizing a panel or linked panels for sponsorship at SCSC should submit to IAS by Friday 4 April 2025:
- session title with brief abstract (250 words max.)
- list of confirmed speakers with affiliations, email addresses, and one-page CVs
- paper titles and abstracts
- names of organizer(s) and chair(s) with email address(es), affiliation(s), and one-page CVs.
Complete session proposals must be submitted to the IAS via the online IAS Submission Form:

Sessions selected for IAS sponsorship must be submitted by the session organizers to SCSC by 15 April 2025.

[2] New Perspectives on the Art and Visual Culture of Venice and the Veneto

This panel seeks to address innovative research on artworks from Venice and the Veneto. With an open-ended methodological approach, we wish to feature the work of burgeoning scholars who study any aspect of Venetian art, architecture, or visual culture. We are particularly interested in papers that consider new methodologies, areas of study, or innovative approaches to the more traditional areas of Renaissance studies.
Some topics that will be considered, but are not limited to the following, include:
Women artists, subjects, and patrons of Venice/the Veneto
Environmental/ecocritical studies of Venetian works
Cultural Exchanges between Venice, the Veneto, and the early modern world
Political studies of Venetian/Veneto art and visual culture
Depictions of the body/nude figure, analyzed in any methodological lens
Paper proposals must include:
- paper title (15-word maximum)
- paper abstract (250-word maximum)
- brief bio (100-word maximum)
- PhD or other terminal degree completion year (past or expected)
- full name, current affiliation, and email address
