Call for Symposia, Presentations, Conversations, Art Presentations and Demos.
The Visual Science of Art Conference (VSAC) invites all people who connect visual perception and the arts (e.g. empirical, experimental, philosophical, phenomenological, computational approaches). VSAC began in 2012, when Baingio Pinna organised it as a satellite symposium for the European Conference on Visual Perception (ECVP). This year, ECVP will be organised in Mainz, and VSAC will take place in Wiesbaden (near Mainz), Germany, from August 21-23:

The VSAC organising committee looks forward to welcoming you and hearing about your work. We have three exciting Keynote this year — by Dr. Marina Iosifian (University of St Andrews), Dr. Aaron Herzmann (Principal Scientist, Adobe), and Prof. Michael Sandle (Sculptor, Royal Academician).
Important Dates:
- Symposia submission due by March 15, 2025
- Abstract submission due by May 1, 2025
- Notification of abstract acceptance: June 10, 2025
- Early bird registration until April 14, 2025
Submission Types:
You may submit only one presentation/conversation/artwork as first/presenting author, but you can co-author as many as you wish.
Presentations: VSAC attendees may submit presentations as a Talk or Poster. To submit a presentation, please provide a title, 300-word abstract, affiliation, and keywords, as well as your preferred presentation format.
Conversations/roundtable discussions: Conversations between artists, curators, market specialists, art historians and scientists deserve a special place in VSAC’s program. Conversations and roundtable discussions typically report collaborative research; but you could also see this as a mini symposium with two or more speakers. If you would like to submit a conversation or a roundtable discussion but the 300-word abstract is too limited, you can use the supplementary file upload to write more, or send us an email: enquiries.vsacgmail.com
Artwork/Demos: To submit an artwork/demo, please provide a title, 300-word abstract, and keywords. You may use the supplemental materials to give more specifics about your artwork/demo, including images/movies if you like. If you'd like some guidance or support, please feel free to email us: enquiries.vsacgmail.com
By submitting to VSAC, presenters give their permission to publish their abstracts in the journal Art & Perception.
VSAC will provide registration fee waivers to select visual artists and students who submit abstracts of high quality and relevance to the conference. If you are an artist or student, when you submit your abstract, you will have an opportunity to tick a box to indicate that you would like to be considered for a registration fee waiver.
We look forward to seeing you in Germany!
