The South African Journal of Art History is pleased to announce the call for submissions of abstracts for a conference on the theme of “Creative intersections, art and architecture”.
In this conference, we seek to explore and open dialogue on the multifaceted aspects of the intersection between notions of art, architecture and space, and how these domains are perceived, performed, and practiced. We invite scholars, researchers, artists and architects to contribute their insights and engage in constructive dialogue about these creative intersections' past, present, and future. Selected papers from the conference will be developed into a special issue of the journal.
Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
- The changing role of art historians and architects, necessitated by collaboration
- Embodied perception, art and architecture
- User engagement and immersion in the art museum
- Monuments, memorials, public art and architecture
- Encounters with art and architecture in theatre, photography and film
- The intersection of visual art and architecture in the digital age
- Vernacular art and architecture
- Interactions of the built environment and nature
- A critique of ideal cities, utopias or futurist architecture
