To celebrate 2025 Jubilee, the University of Arkansas Rome Center is promoting a series of talks to be delivered from February to December 2025.
The talks should cover the historical, philosophical, Theological, urbanistic, sociological, political, economic and philosophical aspects of the Roman Catholic Jubilees from the beginning to nowadays.
All these disciplines should envision the idea of sustainability both in the past and in the present times.
Areas/themes to be considered include:
- History: popes and their theological and political influence
- Art History: how/if the jubilees have influenced or effected the production of visual art
- Urbanism: changings and challenges in Rome from 1300 to 2025
- Material culture: relics, pilgrims, and food
- Environment and Transport
- Lodging
- Conflicts and Deals between Central and Local Power
The proposal can be art historical as well as philosophical, literary or technical in nature. Case studies as well as papers providing a broader view and/or of a more reflective nature are welcome.
It will be evaluating the option to publish the talks in “acta colloquia” post print.
To submit a proposal:
- Write an abstract in English in word; max. 500 words (excl. authors name(s) and contact details). Include a short bio of 150 words max.
- Save the proposal as following: “your name and family_RTJ_2025”
- Include a short CV

Practical information:
- Call for papers deadline: 31 January 2025
- Successful applicants will receive a notification by 14 February 2025.
- The talks should be no longer than 45 minutes.
- The organizers could consider contributing towards transport costs of speakers.
- Excluded papers won’t be notified.
Program:
- The conference will take place at the University of Arkansas Rome Center.
- The whole calendar of the talks will be communicated by mid-March 2025.
