The Department of Art History, Cinema and Audiovisual Media offers teaching covering different artistic trends up to the present day, while giving an important place to the arts of the Americas and to a multiplicity of theoretical and methodological approaches. The successful candidate will breathe new life into the practice of visual arts in the department and consolidate the increasingly important place in our teaching of research-creation.

Duties: 

Through your teaching and your research activities, you will play a pivotal role in fostering excellence within your faculty. Furthermore, you will enhance the prominence of your area of expertise and actively participate in the daily activities of our renowned university. In this role, your responsibilities will include: 
Develop an innovative and high-level research program in research-creation and visual arts;
Teach at the three levels and supervise graduate students;
Actively participate in the academic life and functioning of the Department of Art History, Cinema and Audiovisual Media, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and the Université de Montréal through contributions to committees and working groups;
Contribute to the influence of the discipline through conferences, publications and major scientific events, and maintain privileged relationships with numerous institutions dedicated to the arts, organizing committees of major museum exhibitions and private galleries as well as exhibition centres.

Required Qualifications:

Hold a doctorate (PhD), or be in the process of obtaining it before taking up the position, in visual arts, arts studies and practices, art history, or a related field;
Have an excellent record of achievement and publication in the field of visual arts; the record must demonstrate ongoing artistic practice and influence among experts in the field;
Demonstrate the ability to provide high-quality university teaching and student supervision, particularly in arts practice, art history, and research-creation;
Demonstrate the potential to develop internal, national, and international collaborations;
Adequate proficiency in the French language or a strong commitment to mastering the proficiency level required upon assuming the position in accordance to Université de Montréal’s Language Policy. A French language learning assistance program is offered to all professors who wish to acquire French language skills or enhance their communication abilities.

• A teaching statement (one page)
