Die Anna Polke-Stiftung vergibt jährlich Stipendien für herausragende Forschungsvorhaben zum Werk Sigmar Polkes. Gefördert werden Projekte, die neue Perspektiven auf sein Werk eröffnen. Damit soll Polkes vielfältiges Schaffen seit den 1960er Jahren bis zu seinem Tod 2010 an heutige Bild- und Mediendiskurse angebunden sowie unter aktuellen Fragestellungen neu betrachtet werden.

Dafür ruft die Stiftung zwei Forschungsstipendien aus, die sich an Wissenschaftler*innen der Kunstgeschichte oder benachbarter Disziplinen aus dem In- und Ausland richten. Es sind ausdrücklich auch junge Wissenschaftler*innen dazu aufgefordert, sich zu bewerben. Die Anna Polke-Stiftung ist interessiert an einem wechselseitigen Austausch mit den Stipendiatinnen und Stipendiaten. Diese profitieren von einem lebendigen Forschungsumfeld und werden durch das Team der Stiftung unterstützt. Die Auswahl der geförderten Projekte trifft eine Fachkommission, die 2022 aus Dr. Kathrin Rottmann (Ruhr-Universität Bochum), Bice Curiger (Fondation Vincent Van Gogh, Arles), Mark Godfrey (Kunsthistoriker und Kurator, London) und Sophia Stang (Anna Polke-Stiftung) besteht.

Die Anna Polke-Stiftung ist eine gemeinnützige Stiftung mit Sitz in Köln. Sie fördert insbesondere die Auseinandersetzung mit dem Werk Sigmar Polkes, der 2010 in Köln verstarb und bis heute zu den einflussreichsten zeitgenössischen Künstlern zählt. Als Tochter des Künstlers ist es das Anliegen der Stifterin Anna Polke, das Werk ihres Vaters lebendig zu halten und Wissenschaftler*innen dazu einzuladen, das künstlerische Werk Sigmar Polkes zu erforschen. Die Stiftung steht national wie international der Vernetzung von Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftlern und ihrem wissenschaftlichen Austausch zum Werk Sigmar Polkes zur Verfügung.

Die Stipendien

Es werden auch im Jahr 2022 zwei Stipendien vergeben, die jeweils mit 5.000 € dotiert sind. Die Einteilung der Fördersumme kann je nach Qualifikation sowie Lebenssituation der Antragstellerin / des Antragstellers und der Beschaffenheit des Projektvorschlages flexibel eingerichtet werden. Eine Einlösung des Stipendiums als monatliche Unterstützung über eine bestimmte Laufzeit ist dabei ebenso denkbar wie die Förderung eines Forschungsaufenthaltes oder die Kombination aus beidem solange die Gesamtfördersumme dabei nicht überschritten wird. Die Antragsteller*innen sind daher gebeten, ergänzend zu ihrem Arbeitsplan genaue Angaben zur gewünschten Mittelverwendung (u.U. Kostenplan) einzureichen.

Die Ergebnisse aus dem geförderten Forschungsvorhaben sollen durch die Stipendiat*innen im Rahmen einer öffentlichen Präsentation – als Vortrag, Gespräch oder in vergleichbarem Format – vorgestellt werden. Des Weiteren wäre eine Publikation der Ergebnisse wünschenswert. Die Anna Polke-Stiftung ist daran interessiert, die Ergebnisse der geförderten Projekte im Rahmen der eigenen Schriftenreihe zu publizieren. Wir bitten jedoch um Verständnis dafür, dass dies im Einzelfall nach Abschluss des Stipendiums entschieden und nicht für jedes der geförderten Forschungsvorhaben möglich sein wird.

Antrag

Die Antragsfrist für das Jahr 2022 endet am 25.04.2022.

Die Bewerber*innen werden nach der Sitzung der Fachkommission im Mai über die Entscheidung informiert. Bewilligte Mittel müssen noch 2022 abgerufen werden.

The Anna Polke Foundation's scholarships 2022

Call for application

The Anna Polke Foundation offers scholarships each year for outstanding research projects on the work of Sigmar Polke. It promotes projects that open up new perspectives on his oeuvre. In this way Polke's multifaceted oeuvre from the 1960s until his death in 2010 is to be linked to today’s image and media discourses and can be re-examined in light of current issues. Therefore, the foundation is offering two research scholarships geared to art historians and academics in related disciplines from Germany and abroad. We would like to specifically encourage young academics to apply. The Anna Polke Foundation is interested in a mutual exchange with the scholarship holders. Latter benefit from a dynamic research environment and are supported by the foundation's team. The scholarship recipients are selected by a commission of experts consisting 2022 of Dr. Kathrin Rottmann (Ruhr-Universität Bochum), Bice Curiger (Fondation Vincent Van Gogh, Arles), Mark Godfrey (art historian and curator, London) and Sophia Stang (Anna Polke Foundation).

The Anna Polke Foundation is a non-profit foundation based in Cologne. Its main task is to encourage people to engage with the work of Sigmar Polke, who died in Cologne in 2010 and still today is one of the most influential contemporary artists. As the artist’s daughter, the founder Anna Polke aims to keep alive her father’s work and to invite academics and scholars to do research on Sigmar Polke’s oeuvre. The foundation assists scholars in engaging in networks on a national and international level and fosters scholarly exchange about Sigmar Polke’s oeuvre.

Scholarships

Two scholarships will be awarded, each worth € 5,000. The division of the funding amount can be flexibly set up depending on the qualification as well as the living situation of the applicant and the nature of the project proposal. A redemption of the scholarship as monthly support over a certain period is conceivable as well as the promotion of a research stay or the combination of both as long as the total funding amount is not exceeded. Applicants are therefore requested to submit, in addition to their work plan, a list of the desired use of funds (cost calculation).

The results of the funded research project are to be presented by the scholars within a public presentation – as a lecture, discussion or in a comparable format. Furthermore, a publication of the research findings would be desirable. The Anna Polke Foundation is interested in publishing the results of the funded projects in its own publication series. However, we ask for your understanding that this will be decided after completion of the scholarship on a case-by-case basis experts and will not be possible for each of the funded research projects.

Application

The application deadline ends on April, 25, 2022. Applicants will be informed of the decision after the commission meeting in May. Approved funds must be used in 2022.
