The Clark's Research and Academic Program is seeking a new Associate
Director. In conjunction with the Starr Director, the successful
candidate will be responsible for conceptualizing, organizing, and
implementing the fellowship and academic program, including symposia,
workshops, and colloquia, as well as other research collaborations.

The candidate must have a PhD in Art History or a related field, be
active as a scholar, and already have gained significant experience in
scholarly environments. S/he must be an excellent communicator and
thoroughly knowledgeable about the current critical debates in art
history and visual studies. In addition, s/he must be organized,
efficient, conscientious, and dynamic, willing to work in a small team
(including a Mellon Assistant Director and a Program Coordinator) that
constantly seeks new opportunities and is often under pressure. S/he
will be expected to be committed to the aims and the ethos of the
Clark's world-renowned research program and to the creation and
maintenance of an exceptional scholarly community at the Clark. There is
also the opportunity periodically to teach in the Williams College
Master's Program in the History of Art.

The Associate Director's principal tasks include: working with the
Director in conceptualizing, organizing, promoting, and overseeing the
resident fellowship program; working with the Director to create and
maintain an active conference, colloquium, and symposium schedule;
conceptualizing and developing new academic programs and initiatives
within RAP; working with the Director and the Clark's development office
in seeking new opportunities for outside funding of the Clark's research
initiatives; managing the budget of RAP and supervising its personnel.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of one of the most
vital sites for scholarship, thought, and experiment in the History of
Art and Visual Studies in the United States, a research center whose
commitment to maintaining an international perspective and an expanded
vision of scholarship in the visual arts is central to its mission.
