Chinoiserie at World History Association Annual Conference
The World History Association meets for its 18th Annual Conference in
Salem, Mass., June 25-28, 2008. Given the significance of the location for
America\'s connections with China and the fact that The Peabody Essex
Museum will be one conference venue, I would very much like to get a paper
dealing with Chinoiserie in America. It could be focused on the porcelain
trade or it could be much broader.
We presently have papers on American perceptions of China at the time
of the American Revolution and another on missionary influence on American
attitudes towards China in the 2oth Century. An art historian willing to
deal with influence , interchange, or interaction between the two
countries and cultures would be a welcome addition.
Please contact me with inquiries.
