RX Futures Conference 2008 - Technologies and Techniques, May 10, 2008

RX, Research Exchange in the History of Art, Architecture and Design, is
a consortium of nine university departments (Birmingham, Bristol,
Brighton, Kingston, Oxford Brookes, Reading, Roehampton, Southampton and
Warwick). Its third annual postgraduate conference takes place on 10 May
2008 at the University of Reading.

We invite proposals of around 300 words from all Ph.D. students in the
fields of visual culture (art, art history, design, architecture,
typography etc.) for 20-minute paper presentations and posters on the
theme of "Technologies and Techniques". This conference offers
postgraduate students an opportunity to present their work in a formal
setting and to address questions including but not limited to:

Technologies of reproduction
Copying
Restoration & Conservation
New Media (Internet/Video/Digital etc.)
Materiality
Technologies of the institution
Construction
Innovation (historic and contemporary)
Art and science

We encourage a broad interpretation of the theme through a diverse range
of specialisms, periods and approaches (historical, visual analysis,
theoretical, methodological).

The conference is open to all British and international postgraduate
students.

Proposals for papers should be submitted to Jerry Rayner
(j.l.raynerreading.ac.uk )
and Matt Lodder (m.c.lodderreading.ac.uk) by no later 23rd March 2008.

Posters should be digitally submitted (where possible) no later than 1st
May 2008. Those intending to exhibit posters must also bring hard copies
with them on the day.
