CFP for proposed panel:
AMERICAN ILLUSTRATION AND THE POLITICS OF RACE AND ETHNICITY

29th Annual Conference of the
Nineteenth Century Studies Association
Miami in April 3-5, 2008.

For this conference on POLITICS AND PROPAGANDA, I'd like to propose a panel
focussing on AMERICAN ILLUSTRATION AND THE POLITICS OF RACE AND ETHNICITY,
in the long nineteenth century (to the first World War). Paper proposals are
welcome from established scholars and from graduate students taking up any
of a variety of concerns including the role of illustration in
representations of minorities, fostering white identity, challenging racism,
forging racialized nationalities, etc.

Please send a 250-word abstract for a 20 minute paper, paper title, and
one-page c.v. to esegalufl.edu

I must receive these by Saturday, September 29, 2007. (n.b. the panel
proposal is, in turn, due on Monday Oct 1, so please be prompt!)

Conference information is at: http://www.english.uwosh.edu/roth/ncsa/index.html

Please feel free to contact me with any questions, or to let me know of your
interest in submitting a proposal to this panel.
