The Naples Art Association (NAA) is pleased to announce the
exhibition-related symposium, Awarding Pictures: The Art of Children's Book
Illustration, to be held in Naples, Florida, on September 28, 2007. The
symposium highlights an exhibition of the same title, focusing on
award-winning artists working in the field of children's literature and
showcasing historic and contemporary artwork in various media ranging from
painting to video. The NAA invites paper proposals of all topics related to
the impact of awards on children's book illustrations throughout art
history. Some examples include:
Books as artistic production
Connections between image and text in award-winning books
Award committees/decisions: who decides and how
Artist-writer teams and how they work: do they have an edge
Publishers/editors/artists/writers
Graphic novels, awards, and audiences (especially teens)
Banned books
Viewers/Readers
What makes an award winner
All participants are requested to submit a 250-word abstract with title.
