CFP: "Sex Acts: Performance and Perversion in Late Medieval and Early
Modern Europe," CAA, NY, Feb. 14-17;

DEADLINE: June 5th.

Papers are sought for a CAA session entitled "Sex Acts: Performance
and Perversion in Late Medieval and Early Modern Europe," sponsored by
the Society for the Study of Early Modern Women. The annual meeting of
the College Art Association will be held in New York, February 14-17,
2007.

This panel will offer up a series of innovative, critical engagements
with the history and visual culture of late medieval and early modern
sexuality. Papers will move beyond a discourse of desire to one of
action, critically examining bodies that both act up and/or act out.
The title, 'Sex Acts,' is meant to be interpreted broadly: from the
ACTing out (or performing) of one's sex -- or of the other sex (from
cross-dressing to cross-identification) -- to sexual ACTivity
(peculiar? practices and preferences, scandalous relationships and
situations) ... ACTions, performed and practiced, that challenge
traditional understandings of late medieval and early modern
sexuality. In sum, this necessarily interdisciplinary yet
fundamentally art historical panel seeks to re-view the ritual and
representation of the sexed/sexual body. Seeking new methodologies and
new narratives.

Please submit a c.v. and brief abstract by next Monday, June 5th, to
Allison Levy (alevywheatonma.edu). Please note the immediate
deadline.
