FACULTY POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION: Art Historian

RANK AND SALARY: Assistant Professor, Full-time, Tenure-track. Salary
commensurate with experience.

STARTING DATE: August, 2006

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidate must have a Ph.D. by July 2006 in art history
or related field with a concentration in at least one of the following
areas: Asian, Pre-Columbian, Oceanic/Australian, or Native American.
Teaching experience beyond the level of teaching assistant is highly
desirable.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach undergraduate and graduate art history courses in
area of specialty as well as art appreciation and art history survey.
Establish a program of research that leads to publication and seek external
funding. Additional duties will include advising students (both
undergraduate and graduate) and service to the School and University.

DEADLINE: Review begins January 20, 2006, and will continue until
position is filled.

PROGRAM: Art history is a dynamic area housed in the Division of Art
Education and Art History in the School of Visual Arts. It offers a BA,
BFA, and MA and has approximately 125 undergraduate and 24 graduate
students. The eight full- and part-time area faculty offer a comprehensive
program with an integrated approach to its Western and Non-Western
offerings. In addition to its undergraduate and graduate degrees, a
post-baccalaureate certification in art museum education is also available.

THE UNIVERSITY: The University of North Texas with over 32,000 students
is located in the Dallas-Fort Worth-Denton metroplex. The rich cultural
offerings in the metroplex provide excellent research and professional
opportunities for students and faculty. Among the many museums in the
metroplex are the Amon Carter Museum, the Crow Collection of Asian Art,
Dallas Museum of Art, and Kimbell Art Museum. The School of Visual Arts has
one of the largest and most comprehensive visual arts programs in the
Southwest and one of the largest in the nation with more than 2,300
students. It offers the BA, BFA, MA, MFA in twelve areas of concentration
with a Ph.D. offered in art education.
