Applications are invited from qualified candidates for the position of
Art Historian for the academic year commencing September 2004. Ph.D.
preferred; M.A. in Art History required. Applicants must be able to work
with a student body whose second language is English. It is preferable
that candidates have current publishing projects. Though it is by no
means essential, it would be ideal for the department to recruit an art
historian with research interests in the Mediterranean. Candidates whose
research interests are outside this field are encouraged to apply
nevertheless.
Present departmental teaching emphasis and research falls in the
following areas: 19th & 20th Century painting, sculpture and architecture
in Europe and North America; Critical thinking in Art, Art and Semiotics;
Islamic Art; Romanesque and Gothic Architecture; Greece & Rome; Britain
in the Machine Age; Modernism and Post-Modernism; American Art and
Architecture after the First World War; Methodology of Art History.
