Art + Anthropocene: Culture, Climate and Our Changing Planet

This two day conference at the University of York aims to bring together researchers in the sciences, social sciences and humanities to explore the effects of climate change on our global environment and how the respective disciplines are responding to the changes taking place. Art + Anthropocene seeks to identify the intersections between art, culture and the environment from a broadly interdisciplinary perspective, highlighting major world concerns such as the climate crisis, population displacement and declining wildlife populations, among others. Recognising the importance of the Anthropocene and climate change across these wide-ranging disciplines is decisive in making both of these fields more relevant and accessible to a wider, non-specialist audience.

In the organisation of this conference we are fortunate to be working alongside the Leverhulme Centre for Anthropocene Biodiversity (LCAB), the York Environmental Sustainability Institute (YESI) and the Humanities Research Centre. As such, we hope to inspire wider interdisciplinary thinking, discussion and collaboration.

We are looking for papers from across these disciplines, that present new research and offer ways of addressing the Anthropocene and climate change. Papers will be presented alongside one another in combined sessions, and address a variety of topics, including (but not limited to):

- Glaciology
- Geomorphology
- Flora and fauna
- Forestry
- Oceans
- Atmosphere
- Wildlife
