This one-day symposium will explore aspects of modern woodblock printmaking in East Asia, with a special focus on connections between China and Japan. From the role of the sōsaku hanga 'creative print' movement as one of the foundations of the New Woodcut Movement under Lu Xun, to the woodblock prints of Kitaoka Fumio, as well as contemporary printmaking practice.
