The gta Institute is an internationally renowned research institution for the History and Theory of Architecture at ETH Zurich. It hosts one of the most important archives for architecture and architectural theory, engineering, urban planning, design, and landscape architecture of the 20th Century. The gta Digital unit is dedicated to the development of forward-looking digital research technology in the field of architectural history. It develops state-of-the-art research environments for both the institute's research projects and its public research portals. We are seeking to recruit a

Digital Humanities Specialist / Information Science Specialist (80-100%)

to commence immediately or by agreement. The role is dedicated to the development of the research environment for a SNSF-founded research project as well as the ongoing implementation of the public research portals of the gta Archives. 
 
The position involves the design and implementation of several research environments using semantic web technology. It also includes the implementation of custom ETL-processes, including analysis, cleaning, modelling, and transformation of cultural heritage data using common target ontologies (CIDOC-CRM, among others), as well as the harmonisation of these datasets across multiple partner projects. The position is limited to 3 years, with option for extension. 


The ideal candidate should have an academic degree and preferably a multidisciplinary background embracing both humanities (art history, architecture, or alike) and/or information science (computer science, knowledge representation), and a proven track record in analysis, cleaning, modelling, and transformation of cultural heritage data. Practical working knowledge of CIDOC-CRM modelling, semantic technologies (RDF, RDFS, OWL, SPARQL), and web technologies (HTML, CSS) is essential. Basic knowledge in one or more programming languages is beneficial, but not mandatory.
