"Cerfs-volants du Japon : à la croisée des arts"

Appel à communication
Durant l'époque d'Edo (1603-1868), la popularité des cerfs-volants augmenta rapidement. Tout au long de cette période de fermeture de l'archipel aux étrangers, les arts traditionnels et les loisirs connurent un véritable essor, tant à Edo, la capitale du shogunat, que dans les provinces, jouissant ainsi du développement de la culture vernaculaire, mais aussi d'émulations transrégionales. Aussi les cerfs-volants devinrent-ils des instruments de dialogue entre diverses disciplines artistiques, comme l'estampe, le théâtre, la poésie ou encore la musique.

Le XXe siècle fut au contraire le témoin du déclin des cerfs-volants dits traditionnels. La modernisation des villes les chassa du ciel urbain, tandis que les jouets importés d'Occident ou high-tech mobilisaient l'attention des nouvelles générations. Délaissés par la nouvelle société de consommation, les cerfs-volants furent toutefois considérés par une minorité d'amateurs éclairés comme des objets de grande qualité, dignes d'être collectionnés. Ils furent alors rapidement reconnus, en dehors de ces cercles privés, comme des objets représentatifs d'un héritage culturel qu'il fallait sauvegarder et valoriser.

Au cours de ce colloque, les intervenants s'attacheront à découvrir les liens et les échanges entre des productions artistiques variées et les cerfs-volants depuis l'époque d'Edo, et mettront en lumière les variations de perceptions de cet objet, oscillant entre jouet artisanal et objet d'art, entre objet de consommation et héritage culturel.

Des approches transdisciplinaires (histoire de l'art, anthropologie, ethnographie, sociologie, etc.) sont souhaitées.

Quatre axes seront privilégiés :
- Interactions entre cerfs-volants, arts et culture populaire à l'époque d'Edo
- Cerfs-volants, architecture et urbanisme du XIXe au XXIe siècle
- Cerfs-volants, collections et patrimoine du XIXe au XXIe siècle
- Cerfs-volants et art contemporain (XXe et XXIe siècles)

"Japanese Kites: At the Crossroads of Arts"
International Symposium

Call for paper
During the Edo period (1603-1868), the popularity of kites increased rapidly. Throughout this period, during which the archipelago was closed to foreigners, traditional arts and recreational activities flourished, both in the Shogunate capital of Edo and in the provinces, benefitting from the development of vernacular culture and also trans-regional emulations. Thus, kites became instruments of dialogue between various artistic disciplines, such as ukiyo-e, theater, poetry or music.

However, the Twentieth century witnessed the contrary; the decline of the so-called Japanese traditional kites. The modernization of cities drove them out of the urban sky while high-tech playthings and toys imported from the West mobilized the attention of the new generations. Although abandoned by the new consumer society, the kites were then considered by a minority of enlightened amateurs as quality objects, worthy of being collected. They were quickly recognized, even outside these private circles, as objects representing a cultural heritage that needed to be preserved and valued.

During this symposium, the speakers will focus on discovering the links and exchanges between various artistic productions and kites since the Edo period and will highlight the changes in perception of this object, between craft toys and art objects, between objects of consumption and those of cultural heritage.

Transdisciplinary approaches (Art History, Anthropology, Ethnography, Sociology, etc.) are encouraged.

Focus will be on the following four themes:
- Interactions between kites, arts and popular culture in the Edo period
- Kites, architecture and urbanism from the 19th to 21st centuries
- Kites, collections and heritage from the 19th to 21st centuries
- Kites and contemporary art (20th and 21st centuries)

Proposals (half-page), accompanied by a short biography (five lines), should be sent to: cecilelaly [a] gmail.com before January 5, 2018.
Papers will have a format of 20 minutes (+10 minutes of questions).
Paper proposals and presentations can be given in French, English and Japanese.

国際シンポジウム『和凧　遊戯と美術とのはざまで』発表公募

2018年12月20日～21日、パリのINHAで開催される国際シンポジウム『和凧　遊戯と美術とのはざまで』の発表を募集する。

テーマ
江戸時代、凧の人気は急速に高まった。鎖国の期間、伝統芸術や余暇の活動は、土地固有の文化の発展だけでなく、地域間の文化的競争をも享受し、幕府が置かれた江戸と地方の両方で、発展を遂げた。和凧は、版画、舞台芸術、詩、音楽など、様々な芸術活動の対話の手段になったのであろうか。

逆に、20世紀はいわゆる伝統的な和凧の衰退を目の当たりにした。和凧は都市の近代化によって都市の空から追い出され、ハイテクや西洋から輸入されたおもちゃが新世代の注目を集めた。しかし、目の利く愛好家は、新しい消費者社会には見捨てられてしまった伝統的な和凧を、収集の価値がある高品質のものと考えた。こうして和凧は、これら愛好家のサークルの外でも、保護され、評価されなければならない文化遺産として迅速に認識されるようになった。

今回のシンポジウムは、江戸時代からのさまざまな芸術作品と凧の関係や交流を発見して、工芸品と美術品の間、消費対象と文化遺産の間を揺れ動く、この対象の見方の変化を明らかにすることに焦点を当ている。

学際的アプローチ（美術史、人類学、民族誌学、社会学など）が望まれる。

次の4つの軸を中心に議論は展開される：
- 江戸時代の、和凧と芸術・民俗文化の相互作用
- 19世紀から21世紀までの和凧、建築、都市計画の関係
- 19世紀から21世紀までの和凧、コレクションと遺産
- 20世紀と21世紀における、和凧と現代美術
