Major PhD funding opportunity for UK/EU students for October 2018 start

Kingston School of Art is a member of two consortia that have been awarded a total of £15.9m by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) to fund more than 200 postgraduate students in London and the South East. The two Doctoral Training Partnerships – TECHNE – and the London Doctoral Design Centre (LDOC) bring together leading academic institutions, cultural organisations and industry partners to provide innovative postgraduate training and support.

Kingston School of Art’s two research centres in The Modern Interior and Visual & Material Culture are now inviting applications for both the TECHNE and LDOC consortiums in the areas of:

- Archival Practices - History, Theory, Practice
- Art History and Critical Theory
- Curating
- Design History and Material Culture
- Film and Television Studies
- Heritage, Museum and Galleries
- Photography, History, Theory

Awards will be available for both full-time and part-time students (AHRC eligibility criteria apply). Studentships include full research fees, a substantial maintenance grant and additional research training support. AHRC Maintenance rates for 2018-19 are yet to be announced - the doctoral stipend for 2017-18 was £16,553 (three years full-time or part-time equivalent for six years); levels are likely to rise slightly for 2018-19.

Interviews will be held from 27 November 2017
Deadline for final submission to TECHNE: GMT Midnight Sunday 28 January 2018

- LDOC at Kingston School of Art- deadline for initial LDoc applications for above areas: 5.00pm (GMT) 27 November 2017
Interviews will be held from 4 December 2017
Deadline for final applications to LDOC: GMT Midnight 5 February 2018
