Speaker: Philip Hardie, Honorary Professor of Latin and Senior Research Fellow, Trinity College, Cambridge

Celestial Aspirations: 17th and 18th Century British Poetry and Painting, and the Classical Tradition.

Three lectures will take place on the following dates at 17.30:

Tues 11 October at 17.30 - Visions of apotheosis and glory on painted ceilings: from Rubens’ Banqueting House, Whitehall to Thornhill’s Painted Hall, Greenwich

Wed 12 October at 17:30 - Poetic ascents and flights of the mind: Neoplatonism to Romanticism

Thurs 13 October at 17.30 - ‘No middle flight’: Miltonic ascents and their reception
