Angesichts hysterischer Zeiten fragt Stadtkuratorin Hamburg What Time Is It on the Clock of the World mit einem Performancefestival und Symposium.

Die Titelfrage des Festivals geht zurück auf eine Formulierung der US-amerikanischen Bürgerrechtsaktivistin, Philosophin und Feministin Grace Lee Boggs (1915–2015), die sich für sozialen Wandel, für die Arbeiterbewegung und die Rechte der afro-amerikanischen Bevölkerung einsetzte. Sie verbindet das Bewusstsein für die historische Verortung der aktuellen Entwicklungen mit dem aktivistischen Moment zur Veränderung der bestehenden Verhältnisse: Wie spät ist es auf der Weltzeituhr? Mit dieser Formulierung wird auf die Gleichzeitigkeit gesellschaftlicher Transformationen weltweit hingewiesen und künstlerisch-soziale Bewegungen nicht von einem westlich-hegemonialen Zentrum aus gedacht.

Vom 5. bis 7. Mai 2016 werden Fragen nach Sexismus und Rassismus im Verhältnis zur (Un)Sichtbarkeit von aktueller Migration, stereotypen Geschlechterrollen und materiellen Reproduktionsverhältnissen diskutiert. Internationale Künstler_innen und Theoretiker_innen verbinden sich dabei mit der Situation in Hamburg: Wie kann der öffentliche Raum feministisch-politisch neu gedacht sowie dessen Verflechtungen in globale digitalisierte Machtstrukturen aufgezeigt werden? Wie lassen sich derzeitige Entwicklungen wie Neo-Faschismus in Europa oder andernorts in Kunst, Kultur und Akademie – genauso wie auf den Straßen und in der Gesellschaft – überwinden? Gemeinsam wird ein Glossar zum urbanen Raum aus queer-feministischer Perspektive entworfen, werden neue Manifeste urbaner LGTBQIA-Citizenship of Color im 21. Jahrhundert performativ vorgetragen.

What Time Is It on the Clock of the World versammelt internationale Künstler_innen, Performer_innen und Musiker_innen mit neuen künstlerischen Arbeiten für Hamburg sowie internationale Theoretiker_innen und Aktivist_innen. Das Festival ist konzipiert von Sophie Goltz (Künstlerische Leiterin Stadtkuratorin Hamburg) in Zusammenarbeit mit Hengameh Yaghoobifarah (Journalistin, Redakteurin, Berlin).

In the face of hysterical times the Stadtkuratorin Hamburg is asking What Time Is It on the Clock of the World with a performance festival and symposium.

The lead question of the festival goes back to an expression of the US human rights activist, philosopher, and feminist Grace Lee Boggs (1915-2015), who campaigned for social change, for the workers movement, and for the rights of the Afr0-American population. She connects the awareness of the historical placing of current developments with the activist moment toward changing the current conditions: What Time Is It on the Clock of the World? This expression points at the simultaneity of social transformations worldwide and artistic-social movements not conceived from a Western hegemonic center.

From May 5 to 7 2016, in discussion will be questions about sexism and racism in relation to the (in)visibility of current migration, stereotyped gender roles and material reproduction conditions. International artists and theoreticians will connect with the situation in Hamburg: how can public space be re-thought feminist-politically, as well as its linkages revealed in global digitalized power structures? How can present developments like neo-fascism in Europe or elsewhere be overcome in art, culture, and academia – and equally on the streets and in society? Together they will draft a glossary on urban space from a queer-feminist perspective, and new manifestos of urban LGTBQIA-Citizenship of Color in the 21st century will be presented in performances.

What Time Is It on the Clock of the World brings together international artists, performers, and musicians with new artistic works for Hamburg as well as international theoreticians and activists. The festival is conceived by Sophie Goltz (Artistic Director Stadtkuratorin Hamburg) in collaboration with Hengameh Yaghoobifarah (journalist, editor, Berlin).
