As part of the collaboration with Harriet and Esteban Vicente Foundation, Museo Reina Sofía calls for an annual research fellowship.

The aim of the fellowship is to promote research into the work and career of the artist Esteban Vicente (Turégano, Segovia, 1903 – Brigdehampton, New York, 2001), as well as his context, influences, and role within the international modern and contemporary art scene.The following are some of the proposed, non-binding lines of research:
- Connections between Esteban Vicente and the context of the Generation of ’27, through the relationships between art, poetry, and literature.
- The renewal of art-historical writing.
- Intellectual life, art, and exile.
- Esteban Vicente’s teaching practice in the United States and Puerto Rico.
- The role of Abstract Expressionism in the internationalisation and reception of contemporary Spanish art.
- Cultures of abstraction and new materialisms.

The residency will have a duration of twelve months and is endowed with €21.000. The research project does not require continuous on-site presence at the Museum and may, where appropriate to the needs of the research, be carried out in other locations.

Both individual and collective applications are welcome, and can be submitted in either English or Spanish. Along with the application form, CV and research proposal (max. 3000 words) must be submitted.
