SMK – National Gallery of Denmark, in collaboration with a number of Danish and international museums as well as private collectors, presents the results of a multi-year research project exploring the working methods and techniques of the Danish painter Vilhelm Hammershøi (1864-1916).
Through the analysis of more than 130 paintings, the newly launched digital platform "The Vilhelm Hammershøi Digital Archive" offers new insights into Hammershøi’s artistic practice. For the first time, a large number of his paintings has been systematically examined through close visual study, multispectral imaging, and advanced scientific analysis carried out by an interdisciplinary team of conservators, heritage scientists, imaging specialists, and art historians.
The archive invites you to explore these findings, compare paintings using an advanced image viewer, and download thousands of technical images that reveal new perspectives on Hammershøi’s art.Visit the digital platform ViHDA here: https://hammershoi.smk.dk
