This is a call for applications to a Summer School in Antwerp/Brussels and Cambridge/London from Tuesday, 1st July to Thursday, 10th July.
The focus will be Southern Netherlandish Art, 1500-1700. The summer school is organised by the History of Art Department and Trinity Hall, the University of Cambridge, and the Rubenshuis, Antwerp. The programme is kindly funded by the Government of Flanders.

We offer a unique, object-oriented opportunity for four promising researchers to participate in the summer school, alongside eight early-career researchers from the Rubenshuis and the University of Cambridge.

Open to: MA students, PhD candidates, and early career post-doctoral researchers or museum professionals

When and where: Antwerp and Brussels (1-5 July), Cambridge and London (6-10 July 2025)

About the programme:
The programme aims to bring together 12 promising emerging researchers to explore Southern Netherlandish Art through lectures by experts in the field and guided tours of museum collections, churches, and private collections in stately homes. The summer course will present a unique opportunity to expand the participants' networks in Belgium and England.

The summer school is fully funded, and there is no participation fee. Selected participants will receive nine nights of accommodation, one return Eurostar ticket (Brussels to London), two welcoming receptions in Antwerp and Cambridge, all lunches, two concluding dinners (in Antwerp and Cambridge), all entry tickets, and coffee breaks.

Participants are responsible for covering the cost of their travel to the workshop's start location in Antwerp by midday on 1 July, their return travel home on 10 July, and most of their own dinners during the workshop.

Selected participants will be asked to give a short presentation (5 to 10 minutes) on the first day to inform the other participants about their fields of research and interest.

Application process:

Applications should include:
i) an academic CV
ii) a motivational letter of no more than 500 words
iii) An academic reference

The academic CV and motivational letter should be emailed in one PDF document to one of the co-organisers (Justin Davies, Fellow Commoner of Trinity Hall and Visiting Fellow at the Rubenshuis): jd2076cam.ac.uk.

The academic reference should be sent under a separate cover directly by the letter writer to Drs Justin Davies.

The deadline for applications is Monday, 12 May 2025, 5 p.m. (BST). All candidates will be notified by email on Monday, 19 May 2025, whether selected or not.
