Ecologies of Premodern Art.
Workshop Series of the Research Group at the Ulmer Verein, 4th season

In the time of the global eco-crisis, art history is currently taking a green turn. This is especially the case of Anglo-American research on modern and contemporary art. But in the field of medieval and early modern art history, the number of projects and publications driven by ecological interests is likewise increasing. In this context, many questions arise, which the working group of the Ulmer Verein 'Ecologies in premodern art' would like to address: How could we write the history of medieval and early modern art in an ecosensitive way? Which premodern images, objects, architectures and sources come into the focus of an ecocritical informed view? What new significance do the arts of that time gain from the planetary challenges of the Anthropocene?
