Call for Applications 2025: Lise Meitner Research Groups
The MPG offers excellent researchers again the possibility to apply for a position as a Leader of a Lise Meitner Research Group in all areas of science.
Deadline: 8 April 2025
The Max Planck Society has initiated a number of measures to attract increasing numbers of women to a career in science and provide them with equal opportunities for all stages of their career. An important initiative is the Lise Meitner Excellence Program. The positon as a Lise Meitner Group Leader will be advertised to recruit and promote exceptionally qualified female scientists. There is a multi-stage, competitive selection process, held in close consultation with interested Max Planck Institutes. The Lise Meitner Groups are furnished with their own resources for their entire duration.
Every new researcher in the Lise Meitner Excellence Program receives the offer to take part in the tenure track process, which – following a positive decision by the tenure committee – will lead to a permanent W2 post with group equipment.
Applications are possible between February 12th and April 8th, 2025.
Applications can only be submitted via the following database:
https://lme.cloud.opencampus.net/
The Lise Meitner Excellence Program has been created for highly talented young women scientists who received their doctorates no more than nine years ago (family breaks are taken into consideration accordingly). The Max-Planck-Gesellschaft has established the program in the hope that it will be able to significantly increase the number of women scientists in management positions. Applicants of all genders are welcome.
The Lise Meitner Program expressly serves the objective of counteracting an existing under-representation of women scientists in the Max Planck Gesellschaft at the W2 career level.
You should be able to provide evidence of initial steps towards scientific independence during the early stages of your career in science, e.g. in the form of independent projects, and be able to show outstanding innovative scientific achievements. You should ideally also have already acquired initial experience as a group leader. Another selection criterion is the thematic fit with a suitable institute.
Please submit the following documents with your application for the position:
- A cover letter,
- a curriculum vitae,
- a list of publications,
- a one-page summary of scientific achievements (written for a non-specialist; 11 point type, double spaced, times new roman, 25mm margins on 4 sites),
- a research statement (written for a specialist; 11 point type, double spaced, times new roman, 25mm margins on 4 sites including all references, figures, and tables) of five pages
- copies of three most important publications,
combined in one PDF file.
You are also required to invite two reviewers to upload recommendation letters for you to the application portal.
