Revista de História da Arte (RHA) welcomes original contributions that critically analyse and address historical and current conditions of art practice and theory in the global field. We are interested in perspectives engaging with the fields of art history and theory, visual arts, architecture and urbanism, museum and heritage studies, and curatorial and artistic practices, among other disciplines within the social sciences. We invite submissions from art historians, critics, theorists, artists or curators from across a comprehensive range of chronologies and geographies that respond to the thematic foci of Revista de História da Arte. Please refer to the description of the journal available here. RHA welcomes, but is not limited to, Portuguese narratives and discourses, and their global resonances and articulations. We particularly encourage contributions that foster cross-disciplinary and cross-chronological approaches.

We publish in Portuguese and English, and are committed to diverse, creative and experimental approaches across chronologies and topics, that, among others, engage with and catalyse post-colonial ecologies of visual arts. We welcome a variety of submissions, from scholarly articles to more experimental approaches. We do not consider previously published material. All submissions will only be published if recommended by peer reviewers and accepted by the Editor in Chief and editorial board members.

We welcome submissions in the following formats:

Academic research articles (8000-10000 words, including footnotes and bibliography)

Creative responses (2000-3000 words)

Audio/video/visual essays and interactive art (5-10 min or 5-10 images + a brief supporting statement 700-1000 words)

Interviews (2000-3000 words).

Other types of submissions may be considered at the discretion of the Editor in Chief and the Associate Editor.

Contributors are encouraged to submit their pieces by January 15, 2025, to ensure inclusion in the forthcoming issue, which is expected to be published in September 2025. However, RHA welcomes submissions on an ongoing basis for inclusion in further forthcoming issues.

Please make sure your submission follows RHA Author Guidelines, which you can access at: https://rha.fcsh.unl.pt/index.php/rha/index

Your submission with the supplementary material should be sent to rhafcsh.unl.pt. Include the word ‘Submission’ followed by the title of your project in the subject line.
