The international digital scholarly journal MDCCC1800, established to create a platform for international debate in response to the renewed interest in 19th-century art culture, for No. 12 (2023) intends to focus attention on a cross-cutting theme among the arts, namely the role of drawing as a meeting point between techniques, genres and occasions, with the chronological and contextual specificity of the nineteenth century in the European and global framework. Ground of experimentation, encounter and in-depth study, drawing is indeed configured as a tool of predilection for the critical interpretation of the creative processes that inspired artists of every era, but also for the understanding of the models and visual culture in which they were immersed.

For the monographic section, therefore, priority will be given to contributions, both original and unpublished, that explore the theme of drawing applied to architecture, landscape and the environment, as well as its relationship to photography and printmaking, without, however, excluding other media and artistic techniques. We will therefore welcome submissions that deal, for example, with the study of single relevant episodes in the production of a given artist or context; the design of buildings, artifacts and architectural complexes; the educational journey, through graphic design, of artists, architects, photographers and artisans; the collecting and establishment of public and private collections of drawings; and critical reflection on drawing, including in its relationship to other artistic media.

Without excluding other areas, the following topics are proposed, with emphasis on application in architecture, environmental and landscape studies, and in the history of photography and printing:
- The study of graphic artworks
- Drawing as a tool for understanding works of art and architecture
- Historical and critical reflection on drawing
- Public and private collections of drawings: creation and physiognomy
- Vicissitudes of individual drawings that changed the state of knowledge in the arts and architecture
- The relationship between drawing and photography, and between drawing and printing

We welcome submissions for papers in Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, English, French and German.
