[English version below]

An international conference of the Institute for Media and Cultural Studies of the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf in cooperation with the Ben J. Riepe Company and FREIRAUM, collaborative conceptual and working space for arts and sciences run by the Ben J. Riepe Team. Funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia / District Government of Düsseldorf in the Media Art Fund of medienwerk.nrw.

The conference is dedicated to the relationship between (media) aesthetics and politics in the present. With Jacques Rancière's formula of a "division of the sensual", the question is how our sensory perception has changed with the development of digital technologies, more precisely: which forms of (political) participation become possible, and which offers of experience artistic works can make. Based on the thesis that the senses such as seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling, touching, etc. are not neutral receptive organs, but must be understood as social constructions that are shaped by media-technical conditioning and can transcend bodily boundaries. The project examines how certain forms of sensory address determine and produce the experience of the world. The contributions will discuss the respective transgressive body and cultural techniques of perception in historical, theoretical, and aesthetic perspectives and will re-question forms of a politicization of the aesthetic and aestheticization of the political.

Organized by: Maren Butte, Martin J. Hoffmann, Diana Kasper
Collaboration: Kim Karger

Conference languages: German and English
The conference will be held in compliance with the 3G rule and will be partially streamed live.
