I am looking for information about the artist Bolesław Szańkowski (1873-1953), especially about the last 10 years of the painter's life, about which little information is available. Polish and foreign press has not mentioned the painter since the war. The artist himself does not appear at the exhibitions (or the information has not survived). It is unusual that the artist who painted European kings and aristocrats all over the world has completely disappeared from the history of art. The world and European archives do not have detailed documentations. Moreover, I have been able to locate only some of the artist's paintings so far.

Szańkowski Bolesław (October 19, 1873, Pogwizdów - December 15, 1953, Fischbach). Popular portrait painter. After graduating from high school, he studied at the School of Fine Arts in Krakow, in 1894 at the Munich Academy in the studio of Johann C. Herterich. In Paris, he studied at the Académie Colarrosi and Académie Julian (1896-1898) in the studios of Benjamin Constant and Antonio de la Gandara. He settled permanently in Munich, from where he traveled many times to France, Belgium, England and Scotland. He was a valued portraitist, he painted many representative portraits of people from the aristocracy and European ruling families from the Habsburg, Roman, Wittelsbach, Ignacy Paderewski, Radziwiłł, Potocki, Rzewuski, royal families in Romania. He also willingly painted idealized portraits of beautiful and elegant ladies and more intimate, graceful portraits of children; incl. he repeatedly portrayed his daughters - Ada and Helena. He took part in many exhibitions in Germany and Austria; he often sent his paintings to national exhibitions.
