Given the latest events in Colombia, where we have seen the mobilization of thousands of demonstrators with a strong presence of students and violent repression by the government, H-ART. Journal of art history, theory and criticism opens a space for an issue related to art and protest. The Colombian episode is one of the many civil mobilizations that have taken place globally in recent years, from Hong Kong and Myanmar to the United States and, without going any further, Chile.
The social protest movement has had one of its outlets in art. This testifies art's capacity for agency and demands from our discipline a reflection that produces echoes.
This issue of H-ART will accept critical proposals and may include:
Case analyses of works of art or art initiatives related to protest.
Analysis of art’s role in social protest.
Historical perspectives on the relation between art and protest.
Studies on intervention and/or destruction of monuments and public buildings catalogued as cultural, artistic and historical heritage.
